State Championship Men

The Knox Raiders State Champ Men had a big weekend with a double header. First up on the Saturday night was against the McKinnon Cougars. The Raiders went down 94-64 after having a slow first quarter only scoring 9 points compared to the Cougars 24.  Durrell McDonald (14pts, 2rbds, 1ast) was the leading scorer for Knox, followed closely by Chris Kaba (12pts, 5rbds, 1ast) and Ryan Oirbans (10pts, 10rbds, 2asts). However, the Knox Raiders were hungry for a win the next day defeating the Hume City Broncos in a thrilling 96-87 overtime win. Chris Kaba (28pts, 14rbds, 4asts) and Taylor Dyson (21pts, 3rbds, 1ast) were the outstanding performers for the Raiders. Showing their depth, the Raiders had four players in double figures for the game.

This leaves the men sitting 3rdon the ladder, with 9 wins and 5 losses for the season.

State Championship Women

The Knox Raiders State Champ Women came up against the Hume City Broncos in a close match coming out with the win 70-63. Bec Ott (27pts, 6rbds, 1ast) and Carley Mijovic (16pts, 11rbds, 1ast) were stand outs for the Raiders this week. The Knox women had an impressive 14 steals for the game showing their intensity on defence. The Raiders also shooting at 76% from the free throw line compared to the oppositions 30%, which no doubt contributed to the win in such a close game. Nicole Zammit (24pts, 8rbds, 4 asts) was a standout for the Broncos.

This further secures the Raiders top spot on the ladder, with 11 wins and only 1 loss for the season.

Victorian Youth Championship Men

The Knox Raiders VYCM had another tough loss against the McKinnon Cougars this week going down 85-72. The Raiders shot at an impressive 42% as a team from the field but were unfortunately topped by the opposition shooting at a high 50% for the game. Corey Fiddes (18pts, 3rbds) and Yanni Staedel-Arnould (13pts, 2rbds) were the high scorers for the Knox Raiders. Nicholas Laycock from the McKinnon cougars showed his strengths with an impressive 30 points for the game.

This puts the men in 4thplace in the Terrill pool ladder, with 8 wins and 7 losses for the season.

Victorian Youth Championship Women

The Knox Raiders VYCW had a road trip to play against the Ballarat Rush and came out with a strong 93-56 win. The Raiders shot at a very impressive 50% from the three-point line. Leah Santomaggio (18pts, 6rbds, 6asts) was the leading scorer for the game, closely followed by Althea Angeles (15pts, 2rbds, 1ast) and Eliana Bravington (15pts, 11rbds, 1ast). Knox showed their team depth with four players in double figures. Sophie Molan (11pts, 7rbds, 2asts) was a standout for the Rush.

This leaves the women 5thon the Terrill pool ladder, with 9 wins and 6 losses for the season.
