11 IN A ROW FOR RAIDERS WOMEN

Monday, July 30, 2012

Knox Under Armour Raiders women continued their stellar season, taking their record to a staggering 21-1 with their 11th consecutive win on the weekend.

The Raiders took care of Bendigo and Frankston away from home on Friday and Saturday respectively, securing top position of South Conference.

Knox ran riot against the Braves on Friday, dominating the rebounding count 42-27 on their way to an 82-54 victory.

Leading by seven at half-time, the Raiders set up the victory in the third term when they outscored the Braves 26-8, Amy Denson, Sam Donald and Odette Andrew combining for 22 of the 26 points in the term.

They continued to extend the lead in the fourth quarter, with Andrew top-scoring in the 28 point victory with 22 points.

Denson was also dominant for the Raiders with 21 points and 14 rebounds, with Donald, Shanae Greaves and Kelly Wilson all scoring in double figures.

It looked like it would be a similar result against the Frankston Blues on Saturday, when Knox scored 30 points in the first quarter to setup their 11 point victory.

Frankston clawed their way back, winning the second and third quarters, but never really threatened the Raiders as they went on to win 74-63.

Denson backed up her Friday night efforts with 22 points and seven rebounds, with Andrew also putting up 19 points and Wilson finishing with 19 points and 12 rebounds playing all 40 minutes.

With top spot secured, the Raiders will be as keen as ever to face Geelong on Saturday night at the State Basketball Centre, with their only defeat of the season coming at the hands of the Supercats back in May.

Geelong is second in the East Conference behind Dandenong on only percentage, with a victory crucial to their attempts to finish on top with only three games remaining.
