BRIAN GOORJIAN COACHING CLINIC COMES TO KNOX

In a major coup for Knox Basketball, Australian Basketball’s most winningest coach will come to Knox Converse Stadium on Sunday 14th March for a two hour coaching clinic open to all coaches and players of all abilities.

With a coaching resume to rival any legendary coach of any other sport in the world, Goorjian is simply considered basketball royalty in Australia.

Currently, Goorjian is the specialist advisor to the Chinese National men’s team and assisting the CBA club team – Dongguan Leopards with their junior development program and advisor to their senior team.

The last time Goorjian coached in Australia he led the now de-funked South Dragons NBL team to the 2008-09 Championship in a tough five-game series against cross-town rival Melbourne Tigers. The title was Goorjian’s sixth of his career after winning two with the South East Melbourne Magic (’92 & ’96) and three with the Sydney Kings (’02-03, ’03-04 & ’04-05).

As the NBL’s most successful coach in history, Goorjian boasts a phenomenal 70% winning percentage and teams coached by the master reached the semi-finals or better for 20 consecutive seasons. He was also voted by his peers as the ‘greatest coach’ in the NBL’s first 25 seasons.

In addition, Goorjian led the Australian Boomers at the 2004 Athens and 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, the 2006 Commonwealth Games, and 2006 World Championships.

Basketball Operations Manager & Senior Director of Coaching, Bruce Palmer stated the opportunity to see Goorjian in action is a rarity now days and all basketball enthusiasts should take advantage of the opportunity.

“It’s a great opportunity for coaches and basketball fans in general to witness one of the winningest coaches in Australian sporting history,” said Palmer.

“Brian is a great teacher in player development and this clinic will be extremely beneficial to all that attend. It’s pretty rare these days to get this opportunity to see him with his commitments in China.”

“Sunday 14th March is going to be an opportunity to learn the principles Goorjian put in place with the Boomers and the teams he won his six titles with. I’d encourage all aspiring coaches and players to attend.”
