Knox Basketball proudly presents a Tom Maher Coaching Clinic to be held on Monday 3rd May at the new two court basketball facility at Fairhills High School.
The announcement comes after a highly successful Brian Goorjian clinic just two weeks ago at Knox Converse Stadium which saw close to 100 coaching enthusiasts attend the two hour session.
Like Goorjian, Maher epitomises coaching basketball in Australia and has a long and rich resume of accomplishments including being the Australian Opals head coach from 1993-2000 which saw him guide the women’s national team to two silver medals in Atlanta (1996) and Sydney (2000), the New Zealand women’s head coach for the 2004 Athens Olympics and the Chinese women’s head coach for the 2008 Beijing Olympics (4th place).
In addition to his international experience, Maher is the most successful coach in WNBL history, winning 7 Championships. Maher was also awarded WNBL coach of the year in 1987 and 1992.
Currently he is the head coach of the Bulleen Boomers WNBL team and the Great Britain women’s national team.
The coaching clinic will be a valuable session to attend for all junior and senior coaches and players and will cater for coaches and players of all experience.
Basketball Operations Manager & Senior Director of Coaching at Knox Basketball, Bruce Palmer stated the Maher clinic will be a session not to be missed and another fantastic opportunity to learn from one of Australian basketball’s greats.
“On the heels of the Brian [Goorjian] clinic, the Tom Maher clinic will be another great opportunity to come along and learn from the best. Tom is one of the two greatest coaches we’ve produced in Australia and everyone should mark this one in their calendars.
“Tom will cover content valuable for both junior and senior coaches and players. I know everyone who attends will benefit enormously, said Palmer.”
