State Championship Men

The Knox Raiders State Champ Men defeated the Corio Bay Stingrays 95-73 on the weekend. The Raiders were off to a slow start losing the first quarter 23-28, however they came out stronger than ever in the 2ndquarter finishing with an 11-point lead. Taylor Dyson (33pts, 6rbds, 2asts, 2stls) was outstanding for the Raiders with Ryan Oirbans once again leading in rebounds with 13 for the game. The Raiders had a strong 26 assists for the game showing the team’s ability to efficiently get their teammates the ball and play to their strengths.

The State Champ Men are sitting 7thon the ladder with 11 wins and 9 loses for the season, with only one round of the regular season to go.


State Championship Women

The Knox Raiders State Champ Women had a close win against the McKinnon Cougars, winning 89-80. The McKinnon Cougars kept up with the Raiders right up until half time leaving Knox down by 2 points. However, the Raiders were not going down without a fight and came out and won the next quarter 30-17, gaining the lead back. Bec Ott (30pts, 3rbds, 2asts) was the top scorer for the game along with Sophie Tarabolsi (10pts, 2rbs, 2asts) also having a strong impact on the game shooting at a high 71%. Showing their strength across the team the Raiders had five players in double digits.

The State Champ Women remain on top of the ladder with 14 wins and 2 loses for the season, with only one round of the regular season to go.


Victorian Youth Championship Women

The Knox Raiders Youth Champ Women had their first round of finals this weekend against the Kilsyth Cobras, defeating them 81-41. The Raiders were off to a firing start winning the first quarter 22-9. Showing the Raiders strong defensive ability, they kept the Cobra’s to only 6 points in the 3rdquarter. Leah Santomaggio (26pts, 5rbds, 3asts, 9stls) and Eliana Bravington (19pts, 9rbds, 1ast) were unstoppable for the Raiders. The Raiders also had a very impressive 18 steals, contributing to the Cobras having a total of 26 turnovers.

The Youth Champ women will now move on to the 2ndround of finals, and will play a home final against the Nunawading Spectres Sunday the 29th 1pm at SBC.
