Knox Raiders @ Southern Sabres
Saturday 13th April
Women 5pm Men 7pm
The Raiders take a trip to Sandringham for a Saturday night battle against the Southern Sabres. Fresh off an overtime loss to a powerhouse team in Geelong, the Raiders will be keen to show they’re the real deal.
The Sabres suffered a 10 point defeat to Dandenong in Round 2, keeping them on one win from their opening three games. Lead by Olympian Rachel Jarry, as well as WNBL point guard Amelia Todhunter, Southern have the ability to blow teams away with their offensive power. Raiders centre Lauren Scherf was dominant last week (26 points and 6 rebounds), and has a great opportunity to make her presence felt down low and on the boards Saturday night.
Both mens teams on Saturday night will be battling it out for their first NBL1 win. Knox were locked in a tight game against Geelong through the second and third quarters, but couldn’t stay with them down the stretch. Cadarian Raines was impressive, but the Raiders will need a little more scoring from the outside. Look for Adam Thoseby to provide a shooting punch.
On the defensive end, the Raiders will have their hands full stopping Melbourne United duo David Barlow and Sam McDaniel. Barlow is an especially tough matchup, given his size but versatility to play inside and out.
Knox Raiders vs Melbourne Tigers
Sunday 14th April
Women 12pm Men 2pm
From Todhunter on Saturday to WNBL and AFLW star Monique Conti on Sunday, the Raiders guards won’t have a chance to slow down on defence this weekend. Conti knocked down four three-pointers last weekend, providing a nice inside-outside punch with Louella Tomlinson.
For the men, its the Killer P’s so far for the Tigers. Dave Pineau and Nic Pozoglu both stuffed the stat sheet the last weekend. Pozoglou came just one rebound and one assist shy of a triple double, to go along with his 25 points, while Pineau put together a very efficient 21 points and 15 rebounds. Raines is going to need all Raiders on the floor to help out on the boards, as he could have his hands full inside.
