Knox Raiders vs Basketball Australia Centre of Excellence

Saturday 11th May
Women 6pm  |  Men 8pm

NBL1 MOTHER’S DAY PINK ROUND SUPPORTING BCNA

The youngest teams in NBL1 make the trip into the State Basketball Centre this Saturday night as the Raiders host Basketball Australia’s Centre of Excellence. A group of high school athletes who are some of the brightest stars we will have over the next few years.

The COE women have struggled to start this season, currently sitting without a win. Given their youth, teams have been able to take advantage on the boards and inside the paint. Opponents are averaging eight more rebounds per game, and over 15 more points per game inside the paint. If Lauren Scherf can bring last weeks form, she could be in for a huge game.

Last week the Raiders struggled with controlling the ball, allowing Nunawading 24 points from turnovers. They need to control the ball against the COE, as the young group would love nothing more than getting into an up and down speed contest.

For the Raiders men, their confidence will be sky high after a dominant win last week. However, the COE men have proved a challenge so far this season, currently sitting at 4-3 (equal 4th on record). Alex Ducas has been
a measuring stick for them so far, averaging a team high 21ppg while nailing almost half of his three’s (49% 3PT). Mojave King also looks like an incredible talent on the rise, providing a number of highlights so far this
season.

An athletic team, the COE are able to match their opponents on the boards despite carrying a little less bulk. This athleticism also helps in the open court, where they can finish with force and stlye. However, the Raiders have shown they can be an elite shooting team, and this is a matchup where they’ll need to execute and knock down those open shots. Adam Thoseby is shooting well from deep, but only attempting 4.6 3-PT attempts per game. It would be great to see that number rise.

Damon Heuir might have got himself going last week, picking up over 20 points while also getting his teammates involved. An elite talent in this league, that could have been the spark he needed. Look for another
strong showing from him.
