Knox Basketball Wins 2020 Association of the Year

04, August 2021

Knox Basketball is thrilled to announce that our association has been awarded Basketball Victoria’s 2020 Association of the Year.

Announced online this year, the award is the highest accomplishment an association in Victoria can receive. It is a highlight of the hard work and dedication from all the Knox Basketball staff who came together and kept our basketball community together during an extremely challenging year. It is hard to thank each Knox staff member, board member, club, team, committee, player, parent, referee, or volunteer so this award is for all the efforts each of you made on behalf of Knox Basketball.

Being one of Australia’s largest associations and managing two large venues, one being the State Basketball Centre, required re-evaluation and consideration of circumstances leading to constant change. Through collaboration and brainstorming we effectively executed what would end up being the most challenging plans we have implemented in our 50-year history.

Without the continued support and assistance from Knox City Council, its CEO, Mr Tony Doyle, the Leisure Department team, and all the Knox municipality Ward Counsellors, we would not have survived. This is a testament to the great relationships we have where everyone joined forces to make sure Knox Basketball came out the other end. For that, we truly want to thank Knox City Council.

Grant Harrison, CEO of Knox Basketball said, “It’s a humbling experience to be awarded Association of the Year for 2020 during what was probably one of the hardest periods in history for all basketball associations throughout the State of Victoria. They too equally deserve an award. We are proud to be selected amongst such a worthy group and it’s truly a wonderful surprise and something that we will cherish for a very long time.”

Michelle McCrum, Chairperson of Knox Basketball said, “we are grateful for this award. The amazing team at Knox Basketball working closely with our supporters, clubs, referees, stakeholders, sponsors and Knox City Council have done an extraordinary job to keep the heartland of basketball going. This award means even more during this challenging time.”

A special thank you and appreciation to all our sixteen Junior Domestic Clubs & committees, Senior Domestic teams, our Junior Raiders committee, and our 320+ VBRA Referees. You should be extremely proud of the hard work and commitment you made in connecting with all your members and for the support shown to us in the rush back to re-starting our competitions. This was no mean feat and Knox Basketball commends you all.

Finally, all of us at Knox Basketball say a big thank you to Basketball Victoria for selecting us for this prestigious award.
